About Jo-Anne Greene

Jo-Anne Greene

I began my gardening career in the USA (Massachusetts) in the mid seventies, running a garden maintenance business in the Berkshires for second homeowners. After moving to England in 1983, l worked for the Royal Parks and studied Horticulture and Landscape Construction at Merrist Wood College in Surrey. I was the only woman to take this Landscape course back then and many clients were surprised to see me on site operating bobcats or mini diggers, laying bricks and paving slabs!

Greene Gardens was established in 1987 as a garden design, build and maintenance business that is still running successfully to date. In conjunction with running the business, I worked part time during 1995-1996, as a regional coordinator for the training scheme operated by the Women's Farm and Garden Association.

In 2000-2001 I undertook further Garden Design studies at the Museum of Garden History in London and received a postgraduate Diploma. I have project managed many garden builds over the years using my landscape expertise to create the hardscape detail. I was the landscape consultant for, and part of the team that designed and built, the 'Tastevin' Silver Medal winning courtyard garden at the Chelsea Flower Show 2001.
