Front Garden with Mediterranean Theme

water sculpture

This clients house is at the end of a cul de sac in a new development adjacent to grassland park that leads down to the river Thames. The front garden was very exposed and an awkward shape. Our client brief was for the garden to have a Mediterranean feel with good access from the drive to the front door and to either side of the house. She also wanted Lily Sawtell's figures to be incorporated into the design. See Lily's website at www.lilysawtell.com

We used Gladys the water feature and Elsie the planter to add a quirky and humourous touch to the design. Additionally, the blank wall of the garage was transformed by building a pergola and planting Clematis armandii to gracefully cover the structure and provide a secluded seating area. Garden paths were paved using natural Indian sandstone in a teak hue - light in colour and with a beautiful wood grain effect.

Screening from the road was achieved using groups pf 3 Juniperus 'Skyrocket' interspersed with Cotinus 'Royal Purple' for a dramatic look as one approached the house. Planting included a mix of grasses and perennials to link the garden to the field opposite the house.
